Where should I put a smoke detector at home?
On the ceiling outside every sleeping area and on each floor, including the stair landing. Keep detectors out of kitchens and bathrooms, where cooking smoke and steam cause false alarms, and away from aircon vents.
What is a photoelectric smoke detector?
It shines infrared light inside a shielded chamber. Smoke particles reflect that light onto a sensor and trigger the alarm. It reacts quickly to visible smoke from smoldering fires, such as overheating wiring or a cigarette.
Can a motion sensor send alerts to my phone?
Yes. The ₱669 Daytech TY-PIR15 connects to WiFi and pushes alerts through the Smart Life or Tuya app with no hub. The HW03 and HW06 instead chime a receiver up to 500 ft away, with no WiFi.
How do I test a smoke detector?
Press the test button once a month; the alarm should sound and the LED flash. Replace the battery as soon as it chirps, and vacuum dust off the vents every few months to prevent false alarms.
