Worth knowing before you buy

Lumens are not the whole story. A high lumen count on maximum output usually means a short runtime and a wide beam. Beam distance tells you how far the light throws; runtime tells you how long it lasts at a usable level. For most work, a moderate output you can sustain beats a bright burst you cannot.

Match the light to the task. A tactical torch is built for control and durability. A penlight is built for accurate colour rendering so tissue looks right. A headlamp is for keeping both hands free. They are not interchangeable.
