Dust mite vacuums — what they actually do

A mite vacuum is not a small ordinary vacuum. It combines strong suction with UV light and, on most models, a beating pad that vibrates the mattress to bring embedded debris to the surface where suction can reach it. Ordinary vacuums pull surface dust; a mite vacuum works through the fabric layer.

That matters in a humid climate. Dust mites thrive in warm, humid bedding, and their waste is a common trigger for allergic rhinitis and asthma — both widespread in the Philippines.

Worth knowing before you buy

Use it on mattresses, pillows, sofas and fabric headboards, and expect to run it slowly — passing quickly over a mattress does very little. Weekly use during humid months does more than an occasional deep clean.
