Docking Station
A docking station connects a laptop to multiple peripherals through a single cable, monitors, keyboard, mouse, ethernet, and external drives, turning a laptop into a full desk setup in one plug.
What to check before you buy
- Port selection vs your actual needs: Count the ports you'll genuinely use, an 11-in-1 dock is only better than a simpler one if you need those ports, otherwise it's extra cost and heat for nothing.
- Display refresh rate: Check HDMI or DisplayPort output supports 60Hz at your monitor's resolution, some budget docks cap out at 30Hz which feels sluggish for everyday desktop use.
- Power delivery: A dock's advertised wattage passes through with some loss, if your laptop needs high wattage under load, allow headroom above the bare minimum.
