What to check before you buy

• Waterproof rating: Check whether it's waterproof without a case, and to what depth, before assuming you can bring it diving or snorkeling.
• Stabilization: Matters most for biking, running, or anything mounted on something that vibrates, look for gyro or electronic stabilization specifically.
• Battery life in heat: Action cameras run hot recording 4K, and Philippine heat shortens real-world battery life below the spec sheet number, a spare battery is worth it for a full day out.
