Xiaomi is a Chinese electronics company founded in April 2010 by Lei Jun, headquartered in Beijing. It began with smartphones and now spans smart home, wearables, appliances and transport — one of the widest consumer electronics ranges of any single brand.

What Xiaomi is good at

• Price-to-specification — features usually found on more expensive brands, at lower cost
• App integration — the Mi Home app controls cameras, vacuums, scales and lights from one place
• Breadth — smart scales, robot vacuums, security cameras, wearables and appliances from one source
• Iteration — frequent model updates, so current products stay competitive

Worth knowing before you buy

Smart devices need working internet, not just power. App control, notifications and cloud recording all stop during a brownout even if the device itself runs on battery. Cameras with local microSD storage keep recording; cloud-only setups do not.

Check the app region. Xiaomi devices sold in different markets sometimes bind to different server regions, which can affect which features appear. Products bought here are set up for use in the Philippines.
