1.2V or 1.5V, the thing most people get wrong

NiMH rechargeable AA and AAA cells run at 1.2V, while disposable alkalines run at 1.5V. Most devices work fine on 1.2V, but some, particularly ones with a battery-level indicator, read the lower voltage as nearly flat or won't run at all. If a device has refused rechargeables before, look for a 1.5V lithium rechargeable option instead.

Match the charger to the battery

NiMH and lithium cells charge differently and aren't interchangeable in the same charger. Check that your charger lists the correct battery chemistry before buying, and keep them paired.
