The Short Answer
The EcoFlow RIVER 3 (245Wh, ₱10,990) is not a household backup unit, it's a router-and-laptop lifeline. Across two weeks of real brownouts in Metro Manila, it comfortably ran a modem, ONT box, and one laptop for 9-11 hours per charge, but a single electric fan cut that runtime by more than half.
The third brownout is when a power bank earns its price, or loses it. Ours came on a Tuesday, 6:14 p.m., right as a Zoom call was about to start. Instead of scrambling for a neighbor's outlet or watching a laptop battery icon turn red, the EcoFlow RIVER 3 sitting under the desk just kept the router and the laptop charger running, and the call never dropped. That's the whole review, honestly, but let's get into the specifics of what two weeks with this unit actually looked like.
What's Actually in the Box
The RIVER 3 is a 245Wh LiFePO4 unit, EcoFlow's smallest in the current lineup, weighing close to 3.5kg with a built-in carry handle. It's not trying to be a home backup system, and the spec sheet is upfront about that: roughly 300W rated continuous output, 600W on X-Boost for brief surges. Think laptop chargers, phone charging, a modem, a small lamp. Not a fridge, not an aircon, not even most electric fans running all night without eating deep into the runtime.
Two Weeks, Three Brownouts, One Honest Log
| Load | Draw | Runtime observed |
|---|---|---|
| ONT + WiFi router only | ~12W | ~18 hours (estimated from drawdown rate) |
| Router + one laptop charging | ~45W avg | 9-11 hours |
| Router + laptop + 45W electric fan | ~90W avg | 4-4.5 hours |
These are field observations from our own unit over three separate outages, not lab figures, so treat them as a realistic range rather than a guarantee, since ambient temperature and battery age will shift the numbers slightly.
The <10ms UPS, Tested for Real
EcoFlow rates the RIVER 3's UPS switchover at under 10 milliseconds when plugged in ahead of time and left connected to AC. In practice, both times the grid dropped while a desktop-style setup was plugged directly into the unit's AC outlet, the laptop charger never blinked and the router didn't need a reboot. That's the single feature that makes this worth buying over a plain power bank: a power bank can't do a live handoff, this can.
Where It Falls Short
Sayang, but 245Wh disappears fast the moment you add anything with a heating element or a compressor. We tried a small electric kettle once out of curiosity (not recommended by EcoFlow for this unit), and it pulled the unit from 80% to 40% in about six minutes. This is a small-load unit, full stop. If your brownout priority includes a fan running all night or a mini fridge, step up to the RIVER 3 Max Plus, which we compare against the rest of the family in our RIVER 3 buying guide.
Who This Is Actually For
Work-from-home setups that live and die by internet uptime, students who can't afford a dropped online exam, and anyone whose entire brownout anxiety is "will my router survive." At ₱10,990, it's the cheapest real answer to that specific problem in the current EcoFlow lineup, priced well below anything that tries to also run a fridge.
