The Short Answer
Yes — a 3,600W unit like the Pecron E3600LFP can run a 1.0HP to 1.5HP inverter aircon. Expect roughly 3 to 4 hours on the base unit, or a full overnight once you add expansion batteries. Non-inverter aircons are a much harder ask.
This is the question we get more than any other, usually in the same week a typhoon knocks out power somewhere. And the honest answer has two halves: the aircon will start, and the aircon will drain you fast. Both halves matter.
The unit that makes this realistic is the Pecron E3600LFP, which puts out 3,600W across three 220V–240V sockets and expands to 11,264Wh. Nothing smaller in the range has the headroom for a compressor. Let's go through why.
Surge Is the Wall You Hit First
An aircon doesn't sip power evenly. When the compressor kicks in, it pulls a startup spike several times its running draw — for a fraction of a second, but a fraction of a second is enough to trip an undersized inverter.
This is where inverter aircons win decisively. A conventional (non-inverter) unit slams the compressor from zero to full, producing a brutal locked-rotor surge. An inverter model ramps up gradually using variable-speed control, so the spike is far gentler. Practically speaking:
- 1.0HP inverter split: roughly 700–900W running, surging to around 1,200–1,500W. Comfortable on the E3600LFP.
- 1.5HP inverter split: roughly 1,000–1,300W running, surging near 2,000W. Still within range.
- 2.0HP inverter split: around 1,500–1,900W running. Runs, but eats capacity quickly.
- Non-inverter window type: surge can exceed 3,000W. Risky, and we'd tell you not to plan around it.
If your aircon is a non-inverter window unit, the honest recommendation is to power fans, lights and devices instead, and treat the aircon as out of scope.
The Runtime Math, Without the Marketing
Here's how to work it out yourself. Take your aircon's average running wattage, divide the power station's usable watt-hours by it, then knock off about 10–15% for inverter conversion losses.
Take a 1.0HP inverter aircon averaging 800W once it settles into cruising mode. On roughly 3,000Wh of usable capacity, that's about 3.75 hours before losses, call it 3 to 3.5 hours in the real world. Add one expansion battery and you're comfortably past a night's sleep. Add the full stack toward 11,264Wh and you're into multi-day territory.
Two things push your number higher than the spreadsheet suggests. First, an inverter aircon's average draw is well below its rated maximum once the room reaches temperature — it throttles down hard. Second, if you set 26°C instead of 20°C and close the room off properly, the compressor cycles far less. We've had customers report noticeably longer runtimes than our conservative estimate simply because they stopped treating the aircon like a walk-in freezer.
Practical Setup Notes From Actual Installs
- Plug the aircon in directly. No extension cords, no shared power strips. High-draw appliances deserve their own socket.
- Start the aircon first, then add other loads. Getting the surge out of the way while the unit has full headroom is simply easier on everything.
- Keep the power station ventilated and off carpet. Its cooling fans will run hard under a compressor load, and it needs the airflow.
- Set a realistic temperature. 25–26°C roughly doubles your runtime versus 20°C. This is the single highest-leverage thing you can do.
- Charge during the day if you have solar. The E3600LFP takes solar input via XT60-to-MC4, so a sunny afternoon can partly refill what last night cost you.
Is It Worth ₱74,990 Just for Aircon?
Honestly? If aircon backup is the only thing you want, that's an expensive way to buy comfort. The value case gets much stronger when you count everything else the unit covers during an outage — refrigerator, WiFi, laptops, lights, phones, a fan for the other bedroom — all at once, silently, indoors, with no fuel to buy and no fumes.
