What to check before you buy

Mount type: Most action cameras use a 2-prong GoPro-style mount, but check yours before buying, since some (like early DJI Osmo Action models) use a different bracket.
Battery capacity: A spare battery matters more than any other accessory on a full day out, since action cameras drain fast recording 4K.
Waterproof depth rating: Most cameras are already water-resistant to a few meters. A dedicated housing extends that for actual diving or snorkeling depths.
